When choosing rather to purchase DSL versus cable broadband there are a few different things to consider.  One, is to gain some insight on what each is, and how they work.  The major differences a user is going to find are in how they are installed into your personal home and how widely of a network can be offered to you in your own town, as this should play a significant role in which Internet Service provider you end up choosing, which in the end will probably be the biggest factor in your decision instead of the DSL versus cable broadband. 


One significant provider of DSL is AT&T who partnered with Yahoo and SBC to provide DSL hookups through home phone lines.  DSL is a great choice for internet for people who live in rural climates such as the areas surrounding Phoenix, Arizona because signals for the internet are not as strong in rural areas.  Broadband companies may not exist or clients may not have cable, but almost everyone no matter where they live has a phone line.  This is one factor that may help end the DSL versus cable broadband argument for you.


How much business you plan to use your internet connection for plays a factor as well.  Broadband offers higher speed of data transmission rates as it is able to access larger bandwidths, so if you are a business considering DSL versus cable broadband paying a bit more for the high speeds will probably be worth it.  Also, in keeping in lines with the rural argument previously mentioned, if you live in or operate your business in large city like Chicago, getting cable broadband service will be no problem because almost every building is probably going to come equipped with cable connections and all you will have to do is purchase the modem, which you would have to do anyhow if you bought DSL. 


Looking at the internet service providers around you should play a large role in you final decision of DSL versus cable broadband.  Keep in my mind that choosing a large internet service provider company will ensure better customer service for you as there will always be operators standing by.  So if you want excellent reliable service, or need it for your business, then it is going to be in your best interests to choose a well known ISP like AT&T.
